The electronic properties and stereochemistry of the copper(II) ion. Part IV. Some diammine complexes

Abstract

The electronic, e.s.r., and i.r. spectra of a number of diammine complexes of copper(II) are reported. For complexes of known crystal structure the electronic properties are correlated with the local copper(II) environment present, namely trigonal bypyramidal, square-based pyramidal, rhombic, and reversed tetragonal. These correlations are then used to suggest the local copper(II) ion stereochemistry in a series of diamminecopper(II) complexes of unknown crystal structure.
