Quantitative application of dynamic differential calorimetry. Part 2.—Heats of formation of the group 3A arsenides

Abstract

The heats of reaction of arsenic with fifteen group 3A metals have been measured by means of dynamic differential calorimetry. The heats of formation obtained at the reaction temperatures, in kcal/mole, are as follows: ScAs, –65.2 ± 6.0; YAs, –77.4 ± 3.4; LaAs, –73.0 ± 4.5; CeAs, –68.9 ± 3.0; PrAs, –73.4 ± 3.1; NdAs, –72.7 ± 3.5; SmAs, –72.0 ± 3.5; GdAs, –74.4 ± 3.2; TbAs, –75.0 ± 3.4; DyAs, –78.1 ± 5.0; HoAs, –72.3 ± 3.3; ErAs, –75.6 ± 3.2; TmAs, –72.8 ± 3.2; YbAs, –61.8 ± 2.9; LuAs, –75.2 ± 3.1.
