Quinolizines. Part X. Experiments in the synthesis of 2-alkylquinolizinium salts

Abstract

A method for the synthesis of 2-alkylquinolizinium salts is described, using 2-(4-ethoxybutanoyl)pyridine. Condensation of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-oxoquinolizinium bromide with aromatic aldehydes gives products of the type arylmethylenedi-(3,4-dihydro-1-hydroxyquinolizinium) dihalide.
