Studies on Grignard reagents. Part II. NNN′N′-tetraethylethylenediamine Grignard adducts
Abstract
A stable Grignard adduct, p-fluorophenylmagnesium bromide–NNN′N′-tetraethylethylenediamine, has been prepared, which is monomeric in benzene. In contrast to ether ligands, chemical exchange between complexed and free NNN′N′-tetraethylethylenediamine is slow on an n.m.r. time scale in benzene and anisole solution at room temperature. Co-ordination by NNN′N′-tetraethylethylenediamine cosiderably slows the rate of aryl exchange between aryl Grignard reagents and the corresponding bisarylmagnesiums.
