Platinum complexes with unsaturated amines. Part VIII. The ultraviolet spectra of platinum–olefin complexes of the type [(ol)PtCl3](ol = olefin)

Abstract

The ultraviolet spectra of a number of platinum–olefin complexes [(ol)PtCl3](ol = C2H4, C3H5OH, C3H5NH3+, C4H7NEt3+, and C3H5PEt3+) show three main bands in the region 31,000–45,000 cm.–1, which are assigned to metal d to olefin π* transitions. This assignment gives the order of the relative energies of the d orbitals in these complexes as dx2y2 > dxy > dz2 > dyz > dxz.
