Platinum complexes with unsaturated amines. Part VI. A comparison with stability constants for some silver–olefin complexes

Abstract

Stability constants for the formation of silver(I)–olefin complexes of the type AgL+(L = allylX and trans-but-2-enylX; X = OH and NH3+) have been obtained in aqueous solution by a potentiometric method. It is shown that these olefins have affinities for silver(I) comparable to the acetate and fluoride ions. The stability constants are much smaller than for the corresponding platinum(II)–olefin complexes, and an explanation for this is suggested.
