Diffusion of 1-benzeneazo-2-naphthol in swollen rubber

Abstract

The diffusion coefficient of 1-benzeneazo-2-naphthol in rubber swollen to various degrees by carbon tetrachloride has been measured at several temperatures. The variation of diffusion coefficient with composition of the mixture is compatible with formulae derived from Fujita's free-volume theory of diffusion. The activation energy decreased steadily as the proportion of rubber in the mixture decreased. The decrease cannot accurately be compared with prediction from the free-volume theory.
