Solvation spectra. Part 14.—Ultra-violet spectral studies of silver iodide complex ions

Abstract

Ultra-violet spectra of solutions of silver iodide complex anions and cations in a range of solvents and of certain solid complexes have been measured. Spectra have been assigned to the anions AgI2 and Ag4I2–6 with some confidence and to several others tentatively. The low-energy band found for solid silver iodide is not detected in any of the complex ions. This helps to confirm the view that this band is a property of the particular crystal lattice.
