The reaction of 2,3-dihydrophenalenone and benzaldehyde
Abstract
Benzaldehyde reacts with 2,3-dihydrophenalenone to give the expected 2-benzylidene compound, the carbinol from which it is derived, and a third product for which a 2-(β-hydroxy-α-phenylphenethyl) structure has been suggested. Benzylidene compounds have also been obtained from p-chloro- and p-nitro-benzaldehyde.
