Aliphatic hydroxylamines. Part V. The crystal structure of 1,8-dihydroxy-1,8-diazacyclotetradecane
Abstract
The dimer formed during the oxidation of N-hydroxyhexamethyleneimine was subsequently hydrogenated to give a crystalline compound the structure of which has been determined by the X-ray method. A complete three-dimensional analysis has been carried out, the atomic co-ordinates and anisotropic thermal parameters being refined by least squares. The molecular (I) comprises a 14-membered ring which is linked with its neighbours by hydrogen bonds of length 2·875 Å between the oxygen and nitrogen atoms. The bonds in the molecule are all single and the angles all approximately tetrahedral. The unit cell dimensions are a= 16·233; b= 6·748; c= 7·169 Å, β= 121° 52′, and the final R factor is 8·5%.
