Aromatic reactivity. Part XXXIII. The validity of studies of detritiation of biphenyl in trifluoroacetic acid

Abstract

2-, 3-, and 4-Methylbiphenyl do not undergo rearrangement during 8 weeks in trifluoroacetic acid at 70°, and thus, contrary to a recent suggestion, there is no reason to doubt the validity of detritiation studies on biphenyls in this and related media.
