Molecular complexes. Part V. The crystal structure of the 1:1 complex of bis-8-hydroxyquinolinatopalladium(II) and 1,2,4,5-tetracyanobenzene

Abstract

The three-dimensional crystal structure of the 1:1 complex of bis-8-hydroxyquinolinatopalladium(II) and 1,2,4,5-tetracyanobenzene has been determined, and shows the typical molecular complex structure of stacks of alternate donor and acceptor molecules. The relative orientation of the donor and acceptor molecules is intermediate between that in the corresponding 1:1 chloranil complex and that in the 2:1 bis-8-hydroxyquinolinatocopper(II)–picryl azide complex. The relationship between stoicheiometry and crystal structure in molecular complexes is discussed. The bond lengths and angles of the two molecules are discussed with reference to similar known structures.
