Dielectric properties of charge-transfer complexes involving non-polar donors and acceptors

Abstract

The dielectric relaxation times of charge-transfer complexes formed between the acceptors tetracyanoethylene, tetrachloro-p-benzoquinone, 2,5-dichloro-p-benzoquinone, p-benzoquinone and the donors, mesitylene and dioxan are reported. The relaxation times are interpreted as a measure of the life-time of the complex. The importance of electrostatic interaction in the stabilization of the ground state of the π-π complexes is emphasized.
