Reactions of excited atomic iodine (52P½). Part 3.—Spectroscopic proof of the photochemical production of excited atoms in the banded region of the B3Πou +–X1Σ +g system, and a correlation with the reaction rate
Abstract
By restricting the flash photolysis of an I2+ CO2 mixture with light filters it was established by absorption spectroscopy that excited atoms are produced by photolysis in the banded region of the B3Πou+–X1Σ+g system. The ratio of the concentrations of excited atoms produced in the banded and continuous regions were in close agreement with a calculation based on the previously derived quantum-yield/wavelength function.
