Diffusional interaction in an ion-exchange membrane

Abstract

The conductivity, electro-osmotic water transport, hydrodynamic permeability, and “self-diffusion” coefficient were measured for a cation exchange membrane in the Ag+ and Na+-forms. Refinements in experimental technique were made. The phenomenological coefficients were calculated and it was shown that some commonly neglected interactions can be important. The suitability of the pseudo-binary expressions was also investigated.
