Interpretation of induction periods in the hydrogen + oxygen reaction in aged boric-acid-coated vessels

Abstract

A computer treatment has been developed to give the induction period in the slow reaction of hydrogen + oxygen mixtures for a given set of velocity constant ratios. The programme enables the sensitivity of the induction periods to the various ratios to be examined, and permits the value of the parameter k11/k½10 to be determined over the temperature range 470–500°C. The occurrence of self-heating above 500°C and of surface termination below 470°C restrict the range over which k11/k½10 can be evaluated.
