Torsional vibrations resulting from the general form of potential barrier

Abstract

The nature of the solutions of the wave equation resulting from internal rotation with a torsional potential of low symmetry has been examined. These show that interaction with overall rotation decreases rapidly as the symmetry of the barrier decreases. The procedure for obtaining the rotational fine structure of the torsion band is developed. Upper stage transitions are very sensitive to contributions by higher Fourier components in the barrier potential.
