Magnetic circular dichroism of Se42+ and Te42+

Abstract

Magnetic circular dichroism is used to investigate the species formed in sulphuric acid solutions of selenium and tellurium. The data strongly support the identification of absorption bands in these solutions with square-planar Se42+ and Te42+. These bands are shown to be in-plane polarized, consistent with assignment to π→π transitions.
