Light gated reversible modulation of Cu2+ binding

Abstract

Binding of a Cu2+ ion to the closed form of a photochromic ligand is tight, whereas, to the open form, it is more than tenfold weaker. This is the first demonstration of a reversible photomodulation of the binding of a metal ion using a dimethyldihydropyrene based system.
