Study on the effect of transition metal sulfide in lithium–sulfur battery

Abstract

Three transition metal sulfides with different electrochemical potentials were studied as additives to investigate their effect on the electrochemical performance of Li–S batteries. The study showed that all these transition metal sulfides improved the cycling stability of Li–S batteries due to their high conductivity and strong chemical adsorption with polysulfides. Among these three transition metal sulfide additives, NbS2 obtained the best electrochemical performance in Li–S batteries (0.2C and multirate). Possible reasons were analyzed by related experiments and characterizations.
