A SIMS study of deuterium in Ba3(Ca1.18Nb1.82)O9–δ

Abstract

Secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) has been used to study deuterium in single crystals of Ba3(Ca1.18Nb1.82)O9–δ. A deuterium implant was used as a standard for the determination of the deuterium concentration in Ba3(Ca1.18Nb1.82)O9–δpre-treated in a D2O-containing atmosphere. The conductivity of this single crystal has been measured using impedance spectroscopy in a D2O–nitrogen stream. The values of deuteron concentration, conductivity and diffusivity as well as the constant for the reaction of deuteron incorporation are calculated.
