Chromium based polyatomic interferences on rhodium in ICP-MS

Abstract

A previously unknown polyatomic interference for the mono-isotopic element Rh in the presence of a high concentration of chromium is reported in this study. Instrumental parameters were investigated and optimized to minimize the interference. A correction method was established which enabled accurate determination of Rh in the presence of high Cr matrix on a quadrupole ICP-MS. High resolution ICP-MS was used to resolve the interfering species from the Rh signal in order to determine their origin and to validate the established low resolution ICP-MS method.
