Optimal integration window for peak area estimation

Abstract

This article obtains from a simple criterion the optimal window width for peak area integration. Analytical expressions giving the window width that maximizes the statistical precision for area estimation in terms of the experimental conditions are derived. The performances of this area estimation method are evaluated and compared with other peak integration methods. The sensitivity of the method to possible sources of error has also been analyzed.
