Biosynthesis of dolicotheline

Abstract

The biosynthesis of dolicotheline in intact Dolicothele sphaerica plants has been studied. Leucine serves efficiently as the precursor of the isovaleryl portion of this alkaloid. Mevalonate also serves as a precursor of this portion, but much less efficiently then leucine. Histamine serves as the precursor of the imidazole portion.
