The reaction of phenyl radicals with anthracene

Abstract

Phenyl radicals, generated by the photolysis of diphenylmercury, react with anthracene at the meso-positions to give 9-phenylanthracene, 9,10-dihydro-9-phenylanthracene, 9,10-diphenylanthracene, and 9,10-dihydro-9,10-diphenylathracene.
