Reactions of iodonium nitrate with some alcohols

Abstract

Iodonium nitrate in chloroform-pyridine reacts with some secondary and primary alcohols producing the corresponding carbonyl compounds as the only product. The yields are higher with secondary than with primary alcohols. The presence of electron-withdrawing groups decreases considerably the reactivity of the alcohols towards the reagent.
