The action of acetic anhydride on 1-nitroso-4-phenyl-4-piperidinol

Abstract

Acetic anhydride and 1-nitroso-4-phenyl-4-piperidinol in refluxing acetic acid give 1-diacetylamino-5,6-dihydro-4-phenyl-2-pyridone and 1-acetamido-4-phenylpyridinium hydroxide inner salt as the major products. Mechanisms for the reactions are proposed.
