Nuclear magnetic resonance solvent shifts of methyl groups in alicyclic ketones: pyrrole and other aromatic solvents

Abstract

The solvent-induced shifts of the methyl groups in a small number of alicyclic ketones have been determined for a range of aromatic solvents. The results suggest that pyrrole may be used in the diagnosis of methyl groups which show negligible benzene-induced shifts because of close proximity to a reference plane drawn through the carbon atom of the carbonyl group.
