Electron spin resonance study of chlorine radicals stabilised on an oxide surface

Abstract

Chlorine-containing species have been formed on the surface of MgO and detected at 77 K by e.s.r. spectroscopy. The spectra have been examined in detail and the species have been tentatively identified as chlorine atoms. The g-factor and nuclear hyperfine interaction have been interpreted and are in agreement with a recent analysis for the isoelectronic Sā€“ ion.
