Magnetic susceptibility and electron spin resonance studies on amine–copper(II) arylcarboxylates

Abstract

Magnetic-susceptibility and e.s.r. data are reported for compounds of the type Cu(RCO2)2 L (where RCO2 is an arylcarboxylate and L is aniline or pyridine). The results for the antiferromagnetic compounds have been analysed on both the Bleaney–Bowers and Jotham–Kettle models. The pyridine derivatives have singlet–triplet separations in the range 290–355 cm–1. Four aniline derivatives have been prepared in which the singlet–triplet separations are 250–335 cm–1; these results are contrasted with earlier work which showed the interval to be reduced to ca. 100 cm–1 in aniline derivatives of copper(II) alkylcarboxylates.
