The chemistry of polynuclear compounds. Part XX. Reactivity of hexadecacarbonylhexarhodium

Abstract

The hexanuclear rhodium carbonyl, Rh6(CO)16, reacts with triphenylphosphine or triphenylarsine (L) to give hexanuclear derivatives of the type Rh6(CO)7L9 and with Ph2P·[CH2]2·PPh2(diphos) to give Rh6(CO)10(diphos)3. Reaction with thiols, halogens, or carboxylic acids gives mainly binuclear derivatives of the type Rh2(CO)4S2R2, Rh2(CO)4X6, and Rh2(CO)4(RCO2)2.
