Nitrosodisulphonates. Part I. Fremy's salt (potassium nitrosodisulphonate)

Abstract

Solid potassium nitrosodisulphonate (Fremy's Salt) is shown to exist in two distinct crystalline forms. An improved preparation, and crystallisation methods for both forms are given. Stability of both solids and solution is discussed in detail. The forms are compared in terms of their i.r. spectra, magnetic properties, X-ray powder patterns, and unit cells.
