Reactions of trimethyl(β-dioxo)platinum(IV) complexes with nitrogen compounds

Abstract

Three classes of compound have been prepared from [Me3A Pt]2[A = CH3·CO·CH·CO·C[H with combining macron]3 or (iso-C3H9CO)2C[H with combining macron]]; these are (i) Me3A B Pt (B = ammonia, pyridine, aniline, or quinoline), (ii) Me3A C Pt (C = 2,2′-bipyridyl or 1,10-phenanthroline), and (iii)(Me3A Pt)2D (D = ethylenediamine, and meso-1,2-diphenylethylenediamine).

In all the compounds the platinum is six-co-ordinated by three methyl groups and three other atoms. In class (i) these other atoms are two oxygens of a chelate β-diketone and one nitrogen atom of the monodentate ligand, B. In class (ii) they are two nitrogen atoms of the chelate ligand, C, and the central carbon atom of the monodentate β-diketone. In class (iii) they are two oxygen atoms of a chelate β-diketone and one nitrogen of the bidentate ligand, D, which acts as a bridge.

The i.r. and u.v. spectra of most of the complexes have been measured and related to the structures.
