Interconversion reactions of binuclear complexes of cobalt

Abstract

The complexes (NH3)4 Co·µ(NH2,OH)·Co(NH3)44+ and (NH3)4 Co·µ(NH2,O2)·Co(NH3)44+ are relatively easy to prepare and can be used as starting material for the preparation of a wide range of dicobalt complexes. Details of the reactions of the µ(NH2, OH) complex with HCl, HBr, Hl, HNO3, H2SO4, HClO4, and HNO2, and of the µ(NH2, O2) complex with l, NO2, SO32– and OH are considered. The diaquo-complex (NH3)4(H2O)Co·NH2·Co(H2O)(NH3)45+ can be prepared from the µ(NH2, OH) complex and is a useful intermediate for the preparation of nitrito-, fluoro-, and acetato-complexes. Details of spectra are given.
