Anhydrous hexachloro- and hexabromo-complexes of quadrivalent thorium, uranium, and neptunium

Abstract

Hexahalogenothorates(IV), R2ThCl6 and R2ThBr6, and hexabromouranates(IV), R2UBr6(R = NMe4 and NEt4), have been prepared by reaction of the methyl cyanide complexes MX4,4CH3CN (M = Th and U; X = Cl and Br) with the appropriate tetralkylammonium halide in anhydrous methyl cyanide. X-Ray powder diffraction and infrared studies are reported for these compounds and for the hexachloroneptunates(IV)(NMe4)2NpCl6 and (NEt4)2NpCl6.
