Solvent and catalyst free synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones/thiones by twin screw extrusion

Abstract

This report describes the synthesis of a few 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones/thiones using a twin screw extruder. Use of the extruder allowed the reaction to be carried out without a catalyst or solvent. Twin screw extrusion can also be executed as a continuous process and is easy to scale up.
