Optical spectra and Zeeman effect of rare earth carboxylates and their correlation with crystal structure. Spectra of trisodiumeuropiumtris-(oxydiacetate) di(sodium perchlorate) hexahydrate

Abstract

Transitions 7F05DJ(J= 1,2,3,4) and 7FJâ†5D0(J= 1,2) of Eu3+ in Na3Eu (C4H4O5)3× 2NaClO4× 6H2O (EuDG) have been assigned through spectral and Zeeman effect studies. Apart from establishing the magnetic dipole nature of the 7F05D1 and 7F1â†5D0 transitions, the spectral studies clearly reveal subtle distortions in rare earth site symmetry not revealed by previous X-ray studies on the isomorphous series of crystals.
