The metachromism of methyl orange with electrolytes and possible salting-out

Abstract

The changes in optical absorption of the Methyl Orange (MO) anion in solution produced when electrolytes are added has been studied and confirms the work of others. However, the measurement of circular dichroism and also absorption spectra on filtered and unfiltered solutions of MO in the presence of high concentrations of electrolyte suggest that a new absorption band at 360 nm may be related to precipitation of the MO.
