Synthesis and characterization of triosmium clusters containing a nitrite ligand; crystal and molecular structures of [N(PPh3)2][Os3(CO)10(µ-η2-NO2)] and [Os3(µ-H)(CO)10(µ-η2-NO2)]

Abstract

The cluster [Os3(CO)10(NCMe)2] reacted with [N(PPh3)2]NO2 in CH2Cl2 to give a novel red-orange complex [N(PPh3)2][Os3(CO)10(µ-η2-NO2)] in moderate yield, which underwent protonation with HBF4·Et2O in CH2Cl2 to give the neutral complex [Os3(µ-H)(CO)10(µ-η2-NO2)] in high yield; X-ray crystal-structure analyses have shown that both clusters contain a µ-η2-bridging nitrite ligand.
