Magnetic exchange interactions in perovskite solid solutions. Part 3. Tin-119 Mössbauer spectra of doped iron perovskite solid solutions

Abstract

A detailed study has been made of supertransferred hyperfine field (s.t.h.f.) effects at 119Sn doped into various perovskites with the formula (A0.95Ca0.05)(Fe0.85M0.10Sn0.05)O3 with A = La, Eu, or Lu and M = Al, Ga, Sc, Cr, Mn, Co, or Ni. The observed s.t.h.f. for 119Sn with six nearest-neighbour Fe3+ cations is strongly dependent on the nature of A, but is almost independent of the M substituent. The s.t.h.f. is also sensitive to the radius of a diamagnetic M3+ substituent at the nearest-neighbour sites. The paramagnetic substituents Cr3+, Mn3+, and Ni3+ have been shown to give a s.t.h.f. at 119Sn which has the same sign as that produced by the Fe3+ cations of the host lattice.
