Structural and mechanistic studies of co-ordination compounds. Part 30. Synthesis and characterization of some octahedral halogenoamine complexes of osmium(III)

Abstract

A series of osmium(III) amine complexes of the types trans-[OsLCl2]+[L = L1, bis(ethane-1,2-diamine); L2, 3,7-diazanonane-1,9-diamine; L3, 4,7-diazadecane-1,10-diamine; L4, 1,4,8,11-tetra-azacyclotetradecane; or L5, 1,4,8,12-tetra-azacyclopentadecane], trans-[OsLBr2]+(L = L3, L4, or L5), and trans-[OsL3I2]+ has been prepared and characterized. All these complexes are low-spin monomeric species. The general synthetic methods and the electronic and i.r. absorption spectra of these complexes are discussed.
