Syntheses, structures, gas adsorption and reversible iodine adsorption of two porous Cu(ii) MOFs

Abstract

Two Cu(II)–organic frameworks, Cu(H2L)·DMF·2H2O (1) and Cu(H2L)·3H2O (2), constructed by a new macrocycle-based tetracarboxylate have been solvothermally synthesized by varying the organic solvents under the same synthetic conditions (H4L = 5,5,7,12,12,14-hexamethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane-1,8-N,N′-dimethylene-isophthalic acid). The structure of compound 1 is composed of hexagonal and triangular rings, showing the characteristic Kagomé lattice. Compound 2 displays a (44)-sql net with square channels. Strikingly, the two compounds show different degrees of gas adsorption and reversible iodine adsorption.
