A general synthesis strategy for one-dimensional Bi2MO6 (M = Mo, W) photocatalysts using an electrospinning method

Abstract

One-dimensional fibers of Bi2MO6 (M = Mo, W) have been prepared for the first time via electrospinning followed by heat treatment. The morphologies and crystal structures of as-prepared products were controlled by tuning the post heat treatment temperature. With the increase of the post heat treatment temperature, it was found that the morphologies of the obtained Bi2MoO6 changed slowly from fibers to rods, whereas the morphologies of the Bi2WO6 samples transformed gradually from fibers to porous fibers. The average diameters of the Bi2MoO6 and Bi2WO6 fibers varied from 400 nm to 1 μm and were related to the heat treatment temperature. The photocatalytic activities for the photo-degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) and Methylene blue (MB) over Bi2MO6 (M = Mo, W) were evaluated under the irradiation of simulated solar light. The results showed that RhB can be decomposed in 1 h and MB can be photo-degraded within 2 h.
