Hydrate formation in pyridinium pamoate salts

Abstract

Three novel hydrates as well as three novel salts were obtained from crystallisation of pamoic acid with the various isomers of lutidine and picoline from solventwater mixtures. These structures have been analysed and compared to previous structures obtained from pure solvents, and an attempt has been made to understand the factors leading to hydrate formation in this system. The water activity of the crystallisation mixture required for hydrate formation, as well as the formation of the three hydrates via mechanochemistry, have been investigated.
