Characterization of the polymorphs of aminoacetonitrile hydrochloride and crystal structure of the stable polymorph

Abstract

The three polymorphs of aminoacetonitrile hydrochloride have been reinvestigated and characterized by a variety of methods. The phase transformation from Form III to Form II to Form I was studied by thermal methods (DSC) and optical microscopy. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies (XRD), powder X-ray diffraction studies (PXRD) and spectroscopic studies (infrared and Raman) were carried out on for Form III.
