Promotion of ceria-modified Pt–Au/C cathode catalysts for oxygenreduction reaction by H2-induced surface segregation

Abstract

The ORR activity of Ce-modified Pt50Au50/C alloy catalysts, compared to commercial Pt/C, can be promoted by H2 treatment at 520 K due to the surface and structural alteration by reduction of surface oxides, an increase in the surface composition of metallic Pt, and H2 induced surface Au segregation.
