Unexpected formation of β-(phenylseleno)alkyl nitrates by the reaction of alkenes with the diselenide–nitrogen dioxide couple

Abstract

Alkenes react with NO2 and (PhSe)2 with the evolution of NO to afford high yields of β-(phenylseleno)alkyl nitrates which are easily hydrolysed to the corresponding β-hydroxyalkyl selenides.
