Synthesis, crystal structure and reactions of zerovalent 16-electron bis-η-cycloheptatrienezirconium

Abstract

Reduction of ZrCl4 with sodium amalgam in the presence of cycloheptatriene gives [Zr(η-C7H8)2] which is a precursor to the compounds [Zr(η-C7H7)(Me2NCH2CH2NMe2)Cl] and [{Zr(η-C7H7)(thf)}2(µ-Cl)2](thf = tetrahydrofuran).
