Transition metal complexes of the dipyrromethylidene (dipyrrol-2-ylmethylene) ligand, LnM[[double bond, length half m-dash]C(C4H4N)2], from reaction between ruthenium- and osmium-bound dichlorocarbene and pyrrole: structures of [RuCl2{[double bond, length half m-dash]CCl(C4H4N)}(CO)(PPh3)2] and [RuCl{[double bond, length half m-dash]C(C4H3N)(C4H4N)}(CO)(PPh3)2]

Abstract

[MCl2([double bond, length half m-dash]CCl2)(CO)L2](M = Ru or Os: L = PPh3) with pyrrole forms sequentially [MCl2{[double bond, length half m-dash]CCl(C4H4N)}(CO)L2] and [[graphic omitted])(C4H4N)}(CO)L2]; the latter is protonated by HCl to the dipyrromethylidene complex [MCl2{[double bond, length half m-dash]C(C4H4N)2}(CO)L2].
