Regiospecific lithiation of permethylated (η6-tricarbonylchromium)phenylacetyl(tetracarbonyl)iron anion: a versatile method for the α,α′-ortho-bifunctionalization of hexamethylbenzene

Abstract

Me6C6{Cr(CO3)} has been converted into α,α′-ortho-bifunctionalized hexamethylbenzenes (RCH2)(R′COCH2)Me4C6 in high yields, by a sequence involving lithiation, reaction with Fe(CO)5, a further lithiation, and two sequential alkylation reactions.
